It has been confirmed by the City of Cape Town that a fatal shark attack which took place in Kogel Bay on Thursday was not tagged.

Environmental spokesperson Gregg Oelofse said satellite information shows that the Great White shark which attacked and killed 20-year-old David Lilienfield was not tagged.

It was also confirmed that the closest shark to Kogel Bay at the time of the incident was about 20 kliometres away at the time the incident took place.

Following the attack, the department of environmental affairs cancelled film maker Chris Fisher’s research permit with immediate affect.

Fisher has been filming Great Whites and he used bait to attract them to the cameras.

The baiting took place about 20 kilometres away off Seal Island in False Bay.
