Toddler dies after falling into Kensington drain

Western Cape police have opened an inquest docket, after an almost two-year-old girl allegedly fell into a drain in Kensington on Saturday.

The police’s Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the body of little Skyler Salie has been recovered and brought to the surface.

‘’The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. Anyone with information of what happened before the incident to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,’’ said Warrant Officer, Joseph Swartbooi.

Ward 56 councillor, Cheslyn Steenberg, called upon the community to avoid speculation on what transpired.

‘’Yesterday, Saturday, 16 December 2023 after a grueling few hours of search and rescue, emergency services were able to retrieve the body of a girl child, 1 year 7 months, Skyler Salie.   The circumstances around her untimely passing is being investigated by the SAPS. I thus call upon the community to practice patience in this regard. Avoid speculation and gossip. Rather wait for the authorities to convey the facts,’’ said Cheslyn Steenberg, Ward 56 councillor.

Steenberg said a memorial for little Skyler will be announced soon.
