Two taxi drivers were attacked by three unknown men on Wednesday morning whilst driving on Delft Main Road.

According to police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana the men were travelling past Mango Street when shots were fired at them, forcing them to flee for their lives.

“During the shooting incident the 35-year-old man in the passenger seat, sustained a bullet wound to his back and later passed away at the Delft Day Hospital. The 28-year-old driver of the VW Golf sustained bullet wound to his stomach. He is currently in a serious condition in hospital,” says Sinyangana.

Sinyangana explains that the detectives who investigated the scene obtained information which lead to the arrest of three men aged between 33 and 38 years. They also obtained a licensed firearm which will be taken for forensic testing.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Friday 07 March 2008. They are facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
