A Task Team Indaba, convened by The Right to Agrarian Reform for Food Sovereignty Campaign was held in George today, where delegates discussed ways in which to involve the rural poor in plans relating to the 2009 elections.
Campaign spokesperson, Davine Witbooi says that the meeting ended on a positive note.
“We formed an action committee, who will formulate certain things around the national election and what we are going to do to address the problems affecting the rural communities,” said Witbooi.
She added that people had lost faith in political parties, but that land reform organisations from the Southern Cape, West Coast and Namaqualand, amongst others, had successfully formulated approaches to the 2009 elections. She said that people have a social responsibility to rally against policies that disadvantage the poor.
