A Scientist makes a breakthrough in HIV/AIDS

A team of South African scientists at the Centre for the Aids Programme of Research have discovered antibodies that have the potential to neutralise HIV.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said the ground-breaking work of the country’s scientists is one step closer to developing an HIV vaccine.

The African Christian Democratic Party said it is delighting that after such a long battle with HIV/ AIDS there has been a breakthrough.

Cherryllyn Dudley ACDP Member of Parliament and party`s Spokesperson on Health said that they are delighted by the news and at this stage it makes one proud to be South African.

A young scientist from Durban and his team found a protein that can protect against HIV by alerting the immune system and weaken the virus.

Dudley added that HIV is one of the most formidable challenges facing South Africa and the world.
