In a spate of violence at schools in the Western Cape MEC for Education Spokesperson Bronagh Cassy said that, the Western Cape Education Department and the Ministry are concerned and have said that there has been an increase but they are hoping to see a decrease.

As there have been 42 stabbing incidents this year and 41 last years, however it is still a matter of concern as these are places of learning.

They Department will be implementing new programmes to help decrease the violence at schools.

They are also planning to supply schools with metal detectors which will prove effective when used correctly and behavioural programmes and courses to help them deal with conflict and also help with  recognising those learners who are at risk.
