Cape Flats Fire leaves 7 destitute

Seven people were left homeless late Monday night in Mitchell’s Plain after a fire broke out at 12 Cheetah Close, Eastridge.

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons Johannes said two semi-detached houses were destroyed after they were engulfed in flame.

The city’s disaster response team has assisted the families with food parcels, clothing and blankets. 

Solomons- Johannes said they managed to bring the fire under control upon their arrival on scene and the two structures are severely damaged as a result of the fire.

He added it also includes water damage and smoke and that circumstance relating to the incident it is still unclear.

“The authorities will be opening an investigation to establish the cause of the fire,” said Solomons- Johannes.
