President Zuma sends his condolences on the passing of Former Chief Justice Pius Langa

President Jacob Zuma said he is saddened by the passing of Former Chief Justice Pius Langa. 

He died at the Millpark hospital in Johannesburg at the age of 74-years-old. 

He was appointed as the country’s Chief Justice, the Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission and Head of the Constitutional Court with effect from June 2005 until his retirement in October 2009. 

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said that even after his retirement Justice Langa continued to serve his country and the people of South Africa, becoming the chairperson of the press freedom commission which sought to advance excellence in the professional and ethical conduct of journalist and media houses.

“The country has lost one of his best legal minds, a dedicated human rights jurist and a veteran struggle activist,” said Maharaj.

Maharaj  also added that President Zuma said that on behalf of government and the people of South Africa, they wish to convey their deepest condolences and that his soul my rest in peace.
