WC Education Department investigates case of corporal Punishment

The Western Cape Education Department said
a school teacher has been charged for serious misconduct after she allegedly
beat a pupil.
The department said in the 2012/2013
financial year it received 125 allegations of corporal punishment and a total
of 117 cases were reported during the previous financial year.
Departmental Spokesperson Paddy Attwell
said they can confirm that a teacher will appear at a displinary hearing scheduled
for today in relation to an alleged assault on a 7 year old learner.
“The hearing will take place in terms of
section 17 of the employment of educators act and the teacher is facing of
serious misconduct,” added Attwell.
