The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Cape Town says it fully supports the action taken by the Joe Slovo residents of resisting the removal, and calls on the Minister of Housing, Lindiwe Sisulu to withdraw their court actions.
"We have been in consistent contact with the people of Joe Slovo. We believe that their demands are reasonable. We call on the government and the minister to listen to them and work with them in a true and sincere consultation process," says spokesman Luthando Nogcinisa.
The provincial and national government should change their approach according to the SACP. "The government must consult with communities meaningfully ad speedily address problems raised including the speedy delivery of decent housing," says Nogcinisa.
