'Low probability of load shedding for now' -Eskom

After reports that there will be nationwide load shedding on Monday, Eskom says that this is highly unlikely for now. According to Manager at Demand Side Management at Eskom Andrew Etzinger, this could soon change as we are approaching the winter season.

“What we must always remember is that our large industrial customers have already reduced capacity to 90% of their normal consumption, so we already in a low production mode. Although we not load shedding in residential or commercial areas, nonetheless our large customers are feeling the pain, so it’s a very serious situation,” says Etzinger.

Etzinger adds that in terms of the rotational load shedding (that is done around the country), this will be implemented when they have a problem on their system, a system which he says is under control at the moment.

“Unless we have further trips on our power station, there won’t be load shedding. The system is stable but vulnerable, with a low probability of load shedding at this stage,” explains Etzinger.
