The Democratic Alliance today revealed that 16 594 South African Police Services members do not have a licence.

DA Shadow Minister of Police Diane Kohler Barnard said this has come to pass even though a valid drivers’ licence is still a requirement to apply for appointment, as it is on the SAPS website.

Kohler Barnard said that the new National Police Commissioner needs to ensure that all SAPS members have passed their drivers licences.

She added that this is a basic skill that could increase the capacity of the officers in their job.
