World Heart Awareness Day

Five heart attacks occur every hour in South Africa, with one in every four ending in death.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa revealed the information as World Heart Awareness Day was celebrated this weekend.

Doctor Dominique Stott from PPS Medical Standards says a large proportion of heart disease deaths could have been prevented.

He says that if people had paid attention to lifestyle and risk factors they could have avoided heart disease.
