An owner of a Cape Winelands bottle store is facing a two year jail term for allegedly withholding farm workers personal documents until they’d settled their alcohol debt.

During a joint search operation between the Liquor Authority and the South African Police Service on the premises, 58 identity documents, 14 SASSA cards and bank cards with relevant pin numbers were found.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronwynne Jooste said this is an area of concern and liquor Authority has said they will be clamping down on this problem in the months to come.

Jooste added that they are urging members of the community to report this kind of irresponsible trading.
