The Western Cape Youth Commission together with the Department of Environmental Affairs is searching for young volunteers over the festive period from various communities in the Western Cape.
They have been given a target of recruiting 1000 young people between the ages of 14-35 to register with the National Youth Service (NYS).
This comes after the Deputy President, Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka urged the National Youth Commission to recruit 9000 young South Africans into the NYS from the 1 December 2006 till 31 January 2007.
Solomzi Lamani, Manager of Communications and Events says he is very proud of the 600 volunteers in the Western Cape. He says they have sacrificed their holiday to help clean beaches. “These young people have chosen to be different and contribute to building a better South Africa for all.”
They are appealing to young people to come forward and volunteer. The outstanding amount of volunteers in the Western Cape is 400.
For more information on volunteering in your community, contact Solomzi Lamani at (021) 466 9506.
