The Congress Of South African Trade Union (COSATU) says it supports Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his call for Gary Player to be dropped as the host for this fundraising event for the Mandela’s Children Fund (MCF) .
The Union calls on Player to gracefully adhere to the decision of the MCF committee.
“Gary Player has refused to apologise for his role in the past. Therefore COSATU is outraged at his attitude toward this matter,” says COSATU spokesperson Tony Ehrenreich.
As Gary Player was a spokesperson of the former apartheid government, COSATU says he does not have the moral standing to go up against leaders like Archbishop Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
If Player does not adhere to the call of Tutu and the MCF to withdraw as host, COSATU will protest at the event to make their feelings known.
