On Monday night, two young men were victims of a drive-by shooting in Belhar, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man.
At 23h25, 21-year-old, Kevin Van Nelson was fatally wounded and an 18-year-old was seriously wounded while they were walking along Symphony Way, Belhar.
“The deceased and the other man were walking when a white Nissan Sentra approached and stopped near them. The occupant of the vehicle opened fire, hitting Van Nelson in the neck, chest and back, he died on the way to hospital,” says police spokesperson Randall Stoffels.
The police say according to information which was given to them, the 18-year-old was wounded in his leg and stomach and is in a stable condition.
“The gunman sped away and is still at large. A search is underway for the suspect. Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder,” says Stoffels.
The motive for the shooting is still not known.
