The youth in Gugulethu will benefit from a R700 000 sports development programme, sponsored by the Principality of Monaco.
Monaco will donate R700 000 at the end of the year for the sports programme. The programme is dedicated to the development and protection of pre-school children, as well as youth aged from 16 to 25 years.
A delegation of the Principality of Monaco and the United Nations Development Programme visited Cape Town in July. They identified the NY49 sport complex in Gugulethu as a suitable location for the youth development initiative.
"The NY49 sport is in need of major repairs due to years of budgetary constraints," says Councillor Garin Cavanagh, chairperson of the City’s Sport Committee.
Monaco is also supporting an Early Childhood Development Centre in Khayelitsha.
