Six teenage boys aged between 16 and 18 years are appearing in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court today on charges of rape, soliciting and other charges in contravention of the Films and Publications Act, which includes the production and distribution of child pornography.

According to a police statement the six teenagers were arrested last night between 10pm and 8am this morning at their homes in the areas of Belhar and Mitchells Plain.

“The arrests followed after police launched an investigation early last month into the alleged production and distribution of child pornography of teenagers engaging in sexual activity by using their cellular phones,” says police senior-superintendent Billy Jones.

The names of the teenagers including their families or schools cannot be released because the charges relates to sexual offences involving minors.
