The ship is part of the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa’s newly established Southeast Africa Task Group. The goal of this task group is to build strong partnerships with Southeast African nations to promote maritime safety and security initiatives.
“We’re trying to make sure that the Navy’s are well aware of what’s out there, what’s outside of their territorial waters and to make sure we have the contact, to make sure that if something had to happen, we could pick up the phone and say this is what we’ve got, people need a helicopter to go to hospital, what can we do and through these relationship we could make maritime safety quicker and expeditiously,” says Captain of the USS Forrest Sherman Commander Dean M. Vesely.
