A 14-year-old Mitchell’s Plain boy drowned in a dam near Gansbaai while on a youth camp with friends.

The incident happened on Saturday, while he and his other 19 friends were on a youth camp.

Captain FC Van Wyk said that the organiser of the youth camp saw one of the children struggling to reach the wall of the dam and tried to help him but the child drowned.

Van Wyk added that the police divers found the body in the evening and the other children were taken for counselling.
