The African National Congress said the comment made by Nelson Mandela's ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was regrettable.

Winnie called the filming in April of Nelson Mandela by the ruling party and allowing it to be televised was insensitive.

ANC Spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said the visit in April was one of many that the ANC had made to Mandela to continue to show support.

Mthembu said the ANC is in touch with the family on a daily basis and the visit by the party leadership was one of many that they have been doing.

He further said Nelson Mandela is in hospital because recurring lung infection and that is as a result of the man’s incarceration in Robben Island not because the ANC leadership showed in the media.
