The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape said it is very concerned about the increase to electricity and petrol prices.

Cosatu Spokesperson in the province Tony Ehrenreich said the increases are having a devastating impact on the poor.

Ehrenreich said there also concerns that the electricity price hike in the Western Cape exceed the inflation rate.

He added that the City should tax the wealthy even more to ensure income for other programmes, because these increases impact more on the poor.
