The National Development Plan makes certain proposals on the Judicial Service Commission which DA MP Dene Smuts has taken up in a Private Member’s Bill as the Constitution 19th Amendment Bill.

Smuts said that the President has reiterated government’s support for the NDP, and it also enjoys the support of the official opposition.

Research and Communications Officer Alexandra Leisegang said the NDP proposes reforms including the composition of the JSC itself.

She added that the bill simply reduces by half each other categories directly elected, and also provides clear criteria for the appointment of Judged.
