The South African Democratic Teachers Union today said it has noted with regret the remarks by Department of Basic Education’s Director General Bobby Soobrayan.

Sadtu says Soobrayan is advocating for the early exit of experienced teachers from the system to make way for new ones.

Sadtu General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke said that they find it very disturbing and unacceptable.

“We are saying that the country needs more teachers and young teachers to join the system need veteran teachers who are experienced to mentor them and that’s how we can build a strong education system in our country,” added Maluleke.

He also added that for the Director General to undermine and disregard the collective bargaining by all of a sudden announcing such policy issues will not be accepted.

Maluleke furthermore said that they will intensify their struggle and ensure that Booby Soobrayan is dismissed.
