The Democratic Alliance calls for public comment to be opened for a second time after last week cabinet approved a totally inadequate National Learner Transport Policy, bypassing Parliament in the process.

DA shadow Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Desiree van de Walt said, the DA believes that all children, no matter the circumstances should be aided in any way possible to access quality education.

This policy does not seek to do that and should be revised.

De Walt said the Democratic Alliance has after the second term in the portfolio committee when the Learner Transport Policy was on the agenda, now realize that cabinet has approved this document which should not have been tabled at all.

De Walt added that the first portfolio committee of education referred it back to be redone, the second time last week the portfolio committee received a document, but was not allowed to discuss it and the Transport Department was not even present.
