Missing Person Bureau: A child goes missing every 5hours in SA

Missing Children South Africa has released figures of cases of reported missing children in the period from the 1st of June 2014 to the 31st of May 2015.

During this period 236 children were missing and 173 were found, with adults 362 went missing and 222 were found.

Missing Children SA’s Nicky Rheeder said Gauteng 251, Western Cape 258 and KwaZulu Natal 31 were the provinces with the most cases being reported to the organisation.

Meanwhile the month with the most reported cases was October 2014 with 87 cases. During this period nine children and 33 adults were found deceased.

Rheeder said for categories of children going missing we have general and reasons unknown at 50.84%, runaway cases was 45.34%, victims of crime for example hijacking 0.42%, stranger abduction 0.85%, parental or family abduction 1.27%, and confirmed human trafficking cases 0.42%.
