A 6-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after being driven over by a Lutzville farmer in Vredendal.
The boy is in a serious condition with both his legs
fractured. He had a successful operation at Paarl Hospital last week and was
since transported back to a hospital closer home, to his family.
It is understood the farmer knocked over the boy after he
had apparently taken oranges from the farmer’s orchid.
The boy and his mother were walking along Station Road in
Lutzville, when the 70-year-old driver of the vehicle, pulling a trailer, drove
straight towards them, hitting the boy and drove over him.
The suspect is set to make his second court appearance in
Vredendal on Monday, after he appeared in court last Monday, where the case was
postponed for a bail hearing. He remained in custody.
Police are investigating cases of attempted murder and
reckless and negligent driving.
