REGISTER OR UPDATE DETAILS FOR UPCOMING WARD 8 BY-ELECTIONS

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has urged residents in ward 8 who are eligible to vote, to register and/or update their registration details this weekend for the upcoming municipal by-elections that is scheduled in October.

The ward, which includes areas Brackenfell as well as part of Kuils River, has been without a councilor for a month, as Marian Nieuwoudt retired after serving the City for close to 30 years.

According to data from the IEC, there are 23 339 registered voters in Ward 8.

Citizens as well as voters’ resident in the affected ward are requested to visit registration stations at Rotsgemeente AFM, Brackenfell; Heidedal Primary School; Coetzenberg Centre; Bastion Primary School; Youth for Christ Kids Stop; Die Gemeente Met Oop Deure; NG Kerk De Eike, Kuilsriver; Brackenfell Community Church; Curro Brackenfell Private School.

Registration stations will open at 8am and close at 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

To register, eligible voters in the affected wards must be in possession of either a green barcoded ID book, a Smartcard ID, or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate to be allowed to register.

To find out where you are registered, you can check your registration status online at www.elections.org.za or alternatively, SMS your ID number to 32810 at a cost of R1 per SMS or WhatsApp Hi to our WhatsApp Chabot at 060 088 0000.

‘’The Proclamation of the By-Election is scheduled for Friday, 13 September 2024, which is also the opening of Candidate Nomination and also the last day for voter registration for the  By-Election,’’ said Michael Hendrickse, IEC Western Cape head.

Voter registration will continue online and at the IEC local office during office hours until the Voters’ Roll for the By-Election closes on Friday, 13 September 2024.
