Man arrested in Langa for illegal alcohol worth R600k

A 39-year-old suspect was arrested in Langa on Monday, for being in possession of about R600 000 worth of illegal liquor.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said officers conducted a search and seizure warrant for illicit and illegal liquor products at a liquor premises situated in Washington Street.

‘’ On Monday 2024-09-09 at about 11:30 members attached to Western Cape Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, the Provincial Operational Command Centre Anti-Economic Task Team as well as Brand Compliance officers from Brand Compliance Pty Ltd executed a search and seizure warrant for illicit and illegal liquor products at a liquor premises situated in Washington Street, Langa,’’ said Captain F.C van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.

‘’Members confiscated various illegal and illicit liquor brands from amongst others Emperor Vodka, Best original whiskey, Highland Giant whiskey, and Wellington VO Brandy. The confiscated liquor has an estimated street value of approximately R600 000,’’ he added.

The suspect, believed to be a foreign national, was arrested and detained at Langa SAPS and will appear in Goodwood Magistrates Court once charged.
