The Independent Democrats has spoken out about the recent xenophobic attacks against foreigners in Alexandra in Johannesburg.
‘We condemn the attacks in the strongest possible terms and we call on all law-abiding residents of Alexandra to stand against those who think they have the right to rape and kill our fellow human beings,’ says ID Member of Parliament, Sakkie Jenner.
Jenner went on to say that South Africa citizens must learn that there is a distinction between legal refugees, who are protected by the United Nations Convention on Refugees and AU agreements, and illegal immigrants.
‘South Africans must also understand that anybody who is illegal in the country must be treated like any person in South Africa who breaks the law. Our people must stop seeing an illegal immigrant whenever they see a foreigner and, when they are certain that someone is here illegally, they must inform the police,’ says Jenner.
