The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children was launched today by Women and Children’s Minister Lulu Xingwana.
The launch took place in Cape Town. She said at the launch “this year’s 16 Days of Activism campaign comes amid eye-opening findings from the recent study on gender violence in Gauteng, which revealed more than half of the women in the province have experience some form of abuse at the hands of men in their lives”.
She also stated that a society which fails to protect the rights of its most vulnerable members is dysfunctional.
Xingwana also wants the rising child abandonment in the Western Cape the and violence against children to be treated with urgency.
