Police promotion causes uproar

On Sunday the media reported that the sudden promotion of a number of President Jacob Zuma’s bodyguards has sent shockwaves through the police.


City Press alleges that two of the members have apparently jumped as many as six ranks.


According to City Press acting police chief Luitenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi last month promoted all six to the rank of colonel.


The paper added that some were sergeants before these irregular promotions.


The posts were apparently not advertised and no interviews were conducted.
