China’s president Xi Jinping, who has underscored the growing importance of the group by making Durban his first summit as China's president, expressed hopes for positive headway in establishing the bank.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions welcomed the inclusion of trade unions in the upcoming BRICS discussions.

Cosatu President Sdumo Dlamini said it is a great honour for workers to be involved in these matters because they are mostly affected.

Dlamini explained that these are the matters that touch them as the workers in these different countries and he highlights that as Cosatu they are concerned that they have not been at the centre of the debates but that they are happy that they can now play a active role as they have been given the chance by the minister of international relations.

Furthermore he adds that it is an assurance that they can now play a meaning role and that labour in these different countries can make their own contribution as there will be nothing about them without their input.
