Two Western Cape traffic officials arrested for fraud

On Monday two Western Cape Traffic Officials were arrested on charges of corruption. 

Members of the public came forward with information of two traffic officers who were requesting bribes from motorists. 

One officer is expected to appear in the George Magistrate court today the other one will appear in the Athlone Magistrate court on Wednesday.

MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said they have zero tolerance towards corruption. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner said that Minster Plato has welcomed these arrests and want to send out a strong message to all other employees of the Western Cape government and traffic department that corruption will not be tolerated.

“These arrests follow a thorough investigation by the South African Police in collaboration with the Western Cape department of community safety,” said Wagner.
