WC Health Department investigating 26 fraud cases

The Western Cape Health department today said it is investigating 26 cases of fraud against civil servants employed by the provincial government. 

The department said it is taking a strong stance against fraud.

The charges being investigated include taking leave without permission, irregularities and illegal overtime. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Helene Rossouw said the cases under investigation under the Investigation Union of the Department of the Premier.

Rossouw said the 26 cases are for a period of four years.

“We have 30 000 employees in the Department of Health, so this is a small percentage” Rossouw added.
