The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the report by the National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega that will be dealing with criminality in the SAPS ranks.

The Commissioner said this aims to root out criminality in the SAPS.

DA Member of Parliament Dianne Kohler Barnard said the SAPS management must take swift and decisive action against criminals within the service including those within its higher ranks.

Kohler Barnard said there are thousands of convicted criminals in the SAPS and have not had to serve jail time due to having to pay fines.

“At last, a two year audit is done and I have put together questions on exactly how many convicted criminals are in the SAPS in each one of our provinces and how soon we can get rid of them” Barnard added.
