Working on Fire said it has had the busiest fire
season to date with 343 veld and forest fire within the Western Cape.
Working on Fire’s Lauren Howard said this has been the
most difficult fire season as many years with 54 teams being utilized including
aerial support.
In the 2013/2014 summer fire season the
organisation fought 159 fires throughout the province.
Howard says it has been the most difficult fire
season in many years and it had to be extended until the end of May as a result
of little rain during May, and as well as unusual high and dry temperatures.
“Working on fire will work closely with the
disaster management centre, local municipalities, FBA’s and private land owners
over the next few months to ensure that we are assess this past fire season and
also embark on fire awareness campaigns throughout the province.” Howard added.
