Western Cape MEC of Community
Safety Dan Plato has welcomed the various prison bust successes in the Durban’s
Westville Prison which yielded results.
Last week Friday a raid at the
prison saw the confiscation of over 70 cellphones, 200 sim cards, 7 money bags
of dagga and 34 mandrax tablets.
MEC Plato has called on this
to be replicated in the province. Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha says
though there is a reason to celebrate, the work is not done.
The department of Correctional
Services needs to ensure that George Thomas and the others sentenced does not
have the opportunity to continue with the run of terror over communities.
“Mr Plato has written to
Justice Minister Masuta requesting him to not only roll up large scale prison
bust in our province, but also to investigate the possibilities of using
technological advantages such as signal jammers to prevent the unauthorised use
of devices”, Botha added.
