Violent protest in Philippi leaves three people dead

As violent protest action in Philippi continued during the weekend, one person was killed and several others injured.

This brings the number of people who have died in the protest to three.

The violent protest action which started on Wednesday last week is over service delivery especially residents are demanding proper toilets.

Emergency Medical Services spokesperson, Robert Daniels said 1 man was killed and 4 others were injured. One was left in a critical condition, due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Daniels said the critically injured patient were rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital by Western Cape Government Health Emergency Services, while 3 less seriously injured men were taken to the new Mitchells Plain District Hospital in stable condition.
