A 14 year-old boy appeared briefly in the Paarl Magistrates Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.

“The charge relates to an incident that occurred on Monday afternoon on a school bus, whilst driving in Malmesbury Street in Paarl,” says police spokesperson, Superintendent Billy Jones.

Jones explains that the two boys, aged 14, were allegedly in an argument during which one drew a knife and stabbed the other one in the chest.

“The wounded boy, Samuel Mars from Langvlei Farm in Paarl, was rushed to a nearby clinic and was declared dead on arrival,” says Jones.

Jones adds that the 14 year-old, from a farm in Klapmuts, was arrested on the scene and held in police custody for a court appearance today (Tuesday).

“The case was postponed until 3 September 2007, and the boy has been released into the care of his parents,” says Jones.
