The Sebokeng community has marched to their local police station to demand the release of its 35 members who were arrested on Tuesday morning.
“Today early in the morning at about 04:00 the residents have field the main streets of Sebokeng,” says Sebokeng community leader Ben Ntoloane.
He added that the co-demand was around basic services which includes proper housing infrastructure for the Katlehong area.
Ntoloane says at about 09:00, police asked the residents to disperse and when they refused police started shooting on them using rubber bullets. 16 of the residents have been injured.
“The area has been existing for the past ten years and there hasn’t been proper sanitation in the area,” says Ntoloane.
Ntoloane says the working class has been told to be patient, while billions of rands are being poured into the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
