On Saturday learners from various secondary schools in Cape Town, were given an opportunity to make recommendations on sustainable development and Environmental issues at the City of Cape Town Youth Conference on Sustainable Development.

“It’s quite amazing listening to the comments from the learners and all the presentations that we heard. I must say the youth are very clued up on sustainable development,” says Environmental Education Co-ordinator, Lindie Buirski.

The issue regarding recycling and reuse of waste was a very dominant topic that came up on numerous occasions. Climate change was another issue that was raised.

“It’s an eye opener to listen to the youth and realise that they are really well informed and that we have to start listening to our youth and start acting on their kind of remarks and what they’re saying to us,” says Buiriski.
