The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and the South African Police Service Organised Crime and Anti Corruption Unit, arrested three men for being in possession of Abalone in Herte Street, Kraaifontein on Tuesday.
One of the men who were arrested is a SAPS Inspector and another is a reservist, the third suspect comes from Hawston.
“Two thousand one hundred and twenty seven abalone with an estimated value of R84 000 were seized at the premises,” says Police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana.
Head of Communications at the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Marva Scott says, the government has no place for criminals who are disguised as public servants and who steal from itls own people by plundering at natural resources.
“Those public servants who think they can get away with corrupt activities should think again,” says Scott.
The three suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 16 August.
