A taxi driver who was driving pass a section of Tubilitsha in Delft South at the Main Road, noticed a burning house and tried to save the occupants early Thursday morning.

“The taxi driver ran towards the house as he heard screams of children crying for help but the door was locked.

During the process Neighbours helped to kick the door open in order to gain access to rescue the crying children, “says Police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana.

The neighbours managed to rescue two children, a six month old baby and a three year old boy but unfortunately couldn’t save the two-year-old baby boy.

“At this stage it is still unknown how the fire started. The 21-year-old woman was responsible for the children but was not there until late the Thursday,” says Sinyangana.

The 21-year-old has been arrested for negligence and will appear at Bellville Magistrate court on Monday, 20 August.
