A two-day operation was conducted on Friday and Saturday in the Northern Suburbs of the Cape Peninsula.
“The operation, in conjunction with the SANDF (Air Force), Marine and Coastal Management, Metro Police, Provincial Traffic and other Law enforcement agencies; started early in the morning and ended in the late evening, “ says Police spokesperson, Inspector Bernadine Steyn.
Members of the different forces were airlifted by two Oryx helicopters and dropped off at various main routes in the Peninsula.
“The aim of the operation was to address priority crimes, trafficking of various items (stolen goods, firearms, marine-fauna-and flora resources), drug related crimes, and Road Safety,” says Steyn.
Roadblocks/Vehicle Control Points were carried out on oncoming and outgoing routes, and Helicopter drops were carried out on specific identified point.
“During the operation, eight people were arrested, four for driving under the influence, one for possession of dagga and 137 traffic fines were issued to the value of about R97 500, “says Steyn.
Of the eight people that were arrested, two were for possession of a possible stolen property and vehicles. 2362 people were searched and 1112 vehicles were searched.
“The attitude of the public was very positive during the operation and we would like to thank them for the co-operation we received,” says Steyn.
