The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) says that they are devastated to hear about the passing of one of its members and player of Mamelodi Sundowns, Mpho Gift Leremi.
“The former Orlando Pirates player was one of the best midfielders in the country and a key player who was going to contribute a lot to the national squad,” says SAFPU spokesperson Elvis Sekgobela.
Leremi died in a car crash in Alberton, Johannesburg Monday night.
“He played a very important role for all our junior national teams and he will be remembered for his contribution,” says Sekgobela.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has also paid tribute to Leremi calling him “a star player” in his field.
“We shall never forget his brilliant soccer skills. His loss is a cruel blow to our national game,” says COSATU national spokesperson Patrick Craven.
Craven added that Leremi would be impossible to replace.
