On Monday morning a Claremont resident reported to police that when he came out of his home he noticed an unknown man coming out of his car. According to police spokesperson Elliot Sinyangana, the owner of the vehicle screamed at the man and instead of fleeing, the alleged thief came running towards him with a sharp object.
“He (the owner) then fired two shots in the air to scare him; instead the man closed the gap between them. The alleged thief came closer with the sharp object, the owner then fired a shot to the man’s right leg,” says Sinyngana.
Sinyangana adds that the complainant phoned the police and other emergency units. The wounded man was placed under police arrest and taken to hospital under police guard.
A case of theft of the motor vehicle is being investigated. Also a case of attempted murder against the complainant has been opened.
