The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to a reported drowning on the Vaal Dam near Oranjeville on Saturday where two teenagers were reported to have drowned.
“On arrival on scene a search commenced for two teenagers, a 17 year-old and a 15 year-old reported to have disappeared beneath the surface of the water,” says Lambinon.
He explains that apparently the 17 year-old had launched a canoe, and the canoe capsized. According to the 17 year-old boy’s family, he can’t swim.
“His 15 year-old friend then went into the water to try and help him, but it appears both of them got into difficulty and disappeared,” adds Lambinon.
The police dive unit joined in the search last night (Saturday) and they are still on the scene conducting a search this morning (Sunday).
