Today organisations in the Western Cape, supportive of the Right to Food Campaign will protest in front of parliament in a bid to bring the deterioration of food insecurity of the country to the Finance Minister, Trevor Manual’s attention while he gives the budget speech.
The RTFC argues that the constitutional right protects the right of all people to have access to sufficient healthy food and portable water.
They believe that issues of food security are permanently related to the policy fundamentals that have not prioritised the needs of poor people.
A meeting will be held before the protest at the Minor Hall, St George’s Cathedral at 11am to address Community based organisations in discussing how they will co-operate in the predicament that people in the province are faced with.
The campaign was initiated by the Economic Justice Unit and supported by the Congress of South African Trade Unions.
